Paul Bunyan Telephone Signs Letter of Intent to Purchase Blackduck Telephone
(Bemidji, MN) (February 23, 2008) - Paul Bunyan Telephone Cooperative has signed a letter of intent to purchase Blackduck Telephone Company and Blackduck Cablevision Inc., the companies announced today.
"Both Paul Bunyan Telephone and Blackduck Telephone are established companies with a strong commitment to community," said Paul Freude, Paul Bunyan Telephone Chief Executive Officer, "This purchase, when completed, will strengthen our cooperative and continue to bring advanced telecommunication services for the residents and businesses of Blackduck."
"We have great respect and admiration for the Lien family and the employees of Blackduck Telephone," added Gary Johnson, Paul Bunyan Telephone Chief Operating Officer, "they have been committed to providing telecommunication services at an affordable rate with real local service for over a century. It is a natural acquisition for us both in terms of business philosophy and geography."

Paul Bunyan Telephone Cooperative has been offering the latest in communication services to Northern Minnesota since 1952. The service area currently spans over 3,300 square miles and includes Laporte, Deer River, Bemidji, Grand Rapids, Puposky, Ponemah, Turtle River, Kelliher, Squaw Lake, Red Lake, Solway, Becida, Inger-Wirt, Lake George, Cohasset, LaPrairie, and Northome. Paul Bunyan Telephone services include local and long distance phone service, Internet services through Paul Bunyan Net, all-digital television service through Paul Bunyan Television, and more.
Blackduck Telephone Company has served the Blackduck area since 1903 and Ash River since 1998. The service area covers about 1,200 square miles and includes Blackduck, Hines and Ash River. Blackduck Telephone Company and Blackduck Cablevision Inc. offer local and long distance service, Internet service and cable television.
